This summer(July 28- Aug 7th) a group of 5 from my church, including my step-daughter and I will be building a few houses in Guatemala to help fight poverty in Guatemala in a small way. We will be building several cinder block homes for families that currently live in corn stalk homes like the one to right.

Not that a cinder block home is luxurious, but to have a home that is impervious to the tropical weather, and with a locking door, that is huge for these families. Each home also comes with a stove and beds.

The leader of our group Dave Viola, first participated in the FromHousestoHomes.org program back in 2008, when his entire family went for the first time. You can read a post I did about their 2008 Guatemala Poverty missions trip. The following year they went again, and this will be the third trip for Dave and two of his kids. Due to medical reasons, his wife will not be going, but will be holding up the homestead. The Video from their first trip can be viewed below.

Please Donate

As a part of the trip, I am required to do some fund raising, ($500 at a minimum) and this blog post is part of my fund raising campaign.

The $500 minimum donation amount I need to raise is for the house that we are building. Each participant is required to raise that amount. Additionally, I will need $200 for lodging for the entire 10 days, 10 days worth of food($50/day), and $433 for my round trip flight.

During the week, I will not be  doing much blogging while in in Guatemala, but if I have the opportunity after laboring all day, I will certainly do my best. From what I have heard from Dave and Kate, at the end of the day you are amazingly tired, and when you think you can’t lift another cinder block or hoist another bucket of mortar, you seem to be blessed with the energy.

Guatemala Fund Raising

In addition to this post, I will be sending out letters to friends and family requesting donations.

We are also participating in a Church yard sale this upcoming weekend. I am selling my John Deere tractor with plow that I did not use this winter. We are also selling our pool table, a vintage roto tiller that needs some work, and many other items we have around the house.

Next, I am donating fees from directory submissions and blog reviews  that I get from now until July when the donations are due. I will be doing another blog post about this offer, but if you would like to make a donation in exchange for some advertising please drop a link or contact me via the contact form.

I also will be posting on other blogs as part of my Social Media fund raising campaign for my Guatemala Poverty trip.

Will you donate?

Donations of $10 or more will receive a link on the Guatemala Donors page that I will be creating. If you have another idea of what I can do for you to help me raise funds, please let me know as well.

How can I help you?
