Questions this PodcampPhilly Post will answer
- What did I learn at PodcampPhilly?
- What is PodCampPhilly?
- When was PodCampPhilly?
- How can I present at a Social Media Conference?
- Where can I eat in Philly?
Lizzie and I were in Phillyseveral weekends ago due to attending PodCampPhilly3. If you have the chance to go to PodCampPhilly or an event similar to PodcampPhilly, I would highly recommend you do so.
We not only got a lot of great new knowledge about Social Media, we also got to eat at several great restaurants. I’ll be posting several reviews on Thegrubhound in the near future.
Philly Restaurants Were We Dined
- One of the fine McCormick & Schmick’s Seafood Restaurants which is located on Broad St. Sadly, I forgot to bring my camera to this fine seafood restaurant in Old Town Philly.
- Dunkin Donuts in the Gallery of Market East Train Station for breakfast.
- Temple University dining facility for lunch..college food, enough said.
- For dinner we went out and ate at The Continental Martini Bar…check out the video on thegrubhound post.
- For lunch on Sunday we had amazing Mexican Food at Qdoba ..here is the Mexican Food from Qdoba post on thegrubhound.
Nuggets From PodcampPhilly
I am planning on doing a more indepth blog post on the new baldydog.com SEO Blog about the Podcamp sessions, but for now I will leave a some of the knowledge nuggets. Lizzie however, did post a more timely PodcampPhilly post…isn’t she the best.
- I learned about Hootsuite, which is a site that allows you to monitor and tweet to multiple Twitter accounts at the same time. I did sign up for an account, but truth be told, I have a hard time doing more than one thing at a time, so I will probably have a hard time using it, unless I make a concentrated effort to get use to Hootsuite.
- Audacity is a really cool program for editing of voice files.
- Get to know your sites analytics. Use programs such as
- Google Analytics of course
- Google Web Optimizer
- ClickHeat or CrazyEgg heat maps for your web page hotspots.
- Spreadsheets
- Contest are great, but you really need to be careful to follow state, national, and international regulations where applicable.
- From Cathy Larkin @CathyWebsavvypr the idea that all your outposts should be connected so that your peeps can connect your various profiles and:
- Twitter profiles can come before a blog.
- Put Questions the post will answer at the top of the post, to rank higher for questions someone types into Google or another search engine.
- Aweber is a great service.(note to self to check it out)
- Cool phrase to pose to clients..”What is the cost of ignoring Social Media?”
- Come up with a strategy prior to starting a Social Media campaign
- hashtags are cool and I don’t use them enough.
- Use Hashtag.org to do hashtag research.
- Use MrTweet.com to find people.
- Post food pics to ShareURMeal.com
- SocialMedia Consulting is a hot new field that has a lot of opportunities.
Presenting at a SocialMedia Conference
This was the first time I presented at any type of conference. Well you have to start somewhere now don’t you. How did I get so lucky to be a presenter? When registering for the event, they asked if I wanted to present(not just me, but anyone who signed up, so you could present as well) and since I have been going to conferences for awhile now, I realized that my knowledge was very similar to many of the presenters. So why not.
I do think fear often keeps us from doing these sort of things, so when the opportunity arises, I would suggest taking it by the horns.
I really did a poor job of presenting. Why you ask?
- I finished writing the PowerPoint presentation 1/2 hour before the presentation..poorly prepped. I actually forgot that I had signed up until I got an email Sunday night the week before..oops..
- Not familiar enough with PowerPoint presentations.
- Should have one of those remote screen changers..gadgets are soo cool.
So would I present again? Yes, but hopefully, I would be better prepared to do so.
