This post was re-writen from the post Is Twitter Automation a Good Idea? and adapted for this travel marketing blog.
Twitter Automation Warnings
First, for the purposes of finding other travel sites, I would recommend using Twollow(see number 2 below). Secondly, I would sparingly use number one Twitterfeed to post automatically using feeds. Be careful not use too many feeds, as you don’t want your stream to be crammed with crap. I would also suggest that you make it a regular practice to manually update your twitter account, and to interact with other travel sites. Lastly, when using Tweetlater, use a variety of welcome tweets to send to your new followers, but don’t put in sales pitches or try to get people to click your affiliate links, I actually like the idea of asking a questions of your followers. Currently I am sending a variety messages which all lead to my Twitter Welcome Video…I maybe adding others in the near future.
How to Automate Twitter For Travel Professionals
Below are some sites that I have used with varying degrees of success. Check them out and let me know what you think.
- Twitterfeed.com- this enables the posting of feeds to twitter accounts. Free service. Use feeds such as : Blog feeds(yours which will automatically post an update whenever you update your blog, can also use the comments feed) Find other sites that pertain to your keywords and use their feed to update twitter.
- Twollow.com- allows you to follow other twitter users based upon keywords. Free account follows up to 5 keywords..paid allows up to 20 keywords.
- Tweetlater.com(affiliate link attached)– allows automated posting of tweets to include an automated welcome message to new followers. Another site I discovered teaches how to use Yahoo Pipes to Retweet. I was actually trying to do this the other day when I was on a roadtrip and wanted to use my Travel Blog Twitter account instead of my primary, but I thought it would be great if I could just feed my travel blog twitter feed to my old profile.
Twitter does not allow the Retweeting of other Twitter Feeds. However, the video below, which was found on this post about Retweeting Automatically goes through the process of making it possible to feed one of your twitter accounts the tweets from another Twitter account using Yahoo Pipes.
On the subject of automating Twitter, I came across a Twitter Tutorial site that has some video tutorials on the subject. I have watched most of these videos, and have tried out all of the services. Could be very handy for building your Twitter Travel Profile.
My Twitter Activity
I did implement the free services on the All-Travel-Sites.com Twitter account ( @AllTravelSites ), and have managed to surpass the number of followers I have on my oldest Twitter profile ( @emperoranton ) in just about a month. If I decide to start using the premium services, the gains will be even greater. (Watch out Ashton and Opera).
I just started another Twitter account for Pottstown Commercial Property, which is a friends website I created to sell his warehouse property which had housed his printing business prior to selling it several years ago.( @PottstownProp )
What Do You Think?
Got any other Twitter services I should check out?
